The Thrifty Reseller: A Week of Sales

Welcome back to Thrifty in OKC! If you're new here, I'm a part-time reseller based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I love thrift shopping for my family and for reselling purposes. Today, I'm excited to share with you the sales I made during the week of the 5th through the 12th. As a veteran reseller of almost 20 years, I've come to recognize the phenomenon of the "summer slump" - a slowdown in sales during the months of June and July. Despite this, I've managed to sell a total of $592.98 worth of items this week. In this article, I will detail the items I sold on various platforms, including eBay, Etsy, and Poshmark. So, let's dive in and explore the treasures that found new homes!

Sales on eBay

On eBay, I had a relatively modest number of sales. The first item that found a buyer was a stunning Michael Dawkins bracelet. After pricing it at either $44.99 or $49.99, it had been sitting in my inventory for a while. Finally, a buyer made an offer of $34, which I accepted. Next, I sold a lot of six Littlest Pet Shops - Siamese and Persian cats. These little collectibles are often profitable, but they require careful research due to their unique features, such as stars or diamonds in their eyes. I managed to sell the lot for $29.99. Lastly, I made a sale on eBay for a vintage Twinkle Bears plush toy. These vintage plush toys, including the Twinkle Bears series, hold value and are sought after by collectors. I sold this particular one for $99.99.

Sales on Etsy

Moving on to Etsy, I must admit that it was a slower week for me on this platform. However, I firmly believe that consistency is key, so I continue to list my items and trust that the sales will come. Among the items I sold on Etsy were a cute New York City plastic bag for $26, a Native American seed bead necklace for $20 (on sale from the original price of $16), and a stylish necklace for $16.

Sales on Poshmark

Poshmark turned out to be the star platform for me this week, as I made the most sales and generated the highest revenue here. One of my sales on Poshmark was a fabric belt that I sourced from a belt bag. These belt bags are often great finds for resellers like me, as I can score multiple belts for a low price. The fabric belt found a new owner for $20. Additionally, I sold a Tory Burch top, which was a bit tight on me, but quickly sold within a day for what I paid - $7. Furthermore, a Madewell necklace that I purchased at a Goodwill outlet sold for $25. Lastly, I had an item from my own closet that I had wrestled with - a lifestyle item in the form of a David Yurman cable shrimp dome ring made of 14 karat gold. While it was tempting to keep it due to its perfect fit on my tiny finger, I decided to list it and received an offer of $250, which I gladly accepted.

In conclusion, despite the summer slump, my reselling efforts have resulted in a reasonable amount of sales and revenue. It is essential to persevere, continue listing, and explore different platforms to maximize sales opportunities. Whether it's eBay, Etsy, or Poshmark, each platform offers a unique customer base and opportunities for success in the reselling business. Remember, slow sales shouldn't discourage you - use this time to build up your inventory and prepare for busier seasons ahead. Keep hustling, and success will come your way!

FAQ

Q: How do you handle the summer slump in sales? A: The summer slump is a common phenomenon in the reselling business. I use this time to build up my inventory and prepare for busier seasons ahead. It's important to remain consistent and keep listing new items.

Q: Are plush toys safe to resell, considering the risk of bed bugs? A: While it's essential to take precautions when dealing with second-hand items, I have never encountered bed bugs or bugs in plush toys. I typically leave the items in my garage or trunk before thoroughly cleaning them using high heat in the dryer.

Q: How do you decide which items to list on each platform? A: I have a strategic approach to listing items on different platforms. I tend to sell vintage items on Etsy, trendier items on Poshmark, and items with uncertain values or those I want to auction on eBay. This way, I maximize my chances of finding the right buyers for each item.
