Introduction

In today's video, we will be discussing the process of making hats. This is not something I particularly enjoy, but due to certain circumstances, I have found myself being the one responsible for completing a hat order. Let me tell you the story of how this situation came about and the challenges I faced along the way.

The Backstory of the Hat Order

The hat order was actually placed by my husband, Keenan, who had recently opened an Etsy shop for selling hats. However, instead of him making the hats as intended, I ended up being the one tasked with the job. It all started when Keenan was looking at his phone and suddenly burst into laughter. Intrigued, I asked him what was so funny, and he replied, "You'll see."

The Challenge of Making Hats

To my surprise, the laughter was not caused by a humorous mishap but rather a hat order that needed immediate attention. The customer had requested ten hats for a wedding, and they had paid for rush shipping the next day. Keenan and I exchanged a knowing look, and I begrudgingly accepted the responsibility of fulfilling this order.

The Rushed Shipping Request

Although the customer had requested next-day shipping, they had placed the order late in the evening, making it impossible to ship it out the same day. Nevertheless, I was determined to get the hats ready as quickly as possible. In addition to the ten hats for the wedding, I also had two other orders to fulfill, bringing the total to thirteen hats.

Setting Up the Machines

Fortunately, I had three embroidery machines at my disposal, which would help expedite the process. Usually, I only set up one machine for hat embroidery, but in this case, I decided to utilize all three machines to get the job done faster. I gathered all the necessary hat supplies and prepared to set up each machine for embroidery.

Hooping the Hats

The first step in the process was hooping the hats. I had purchased value cap dad hats in bulk a few months ago, so luckily, I had enough in stock for this order. Using cat backing from AllStitch.com, I carefully hooped each hat, making sure they were secured tightly for embroidery.

Loading Designs and Starting Embroidery

With the hooping complete, I moved on to loading the designs onto each machine. The first two machines were allocated for the ten hats with the same design, while the third machine would handle the remaining three hats. All the designs were flipped upside down since they would be embroidered on black hats using white thread.

The Power of Multiple Machines

Having multiple machines proved to be a game-changer. The embroidery process was completed in just twenty minutes, thanks to the efficiency of using all three machines simultaneously. This saved a significant amount of time compared to if I had only used one machine.

Completion of the Hat Order

The embroidery process was now complete, and all thirteen hats were beautifully embroidered with the specified designs. The rush order had been successfully fulfilled, and the customer had paid $272 for their hats. After accounting for the cost of supplies ($20), the profit amounted to $250.

Conclusion

Despite my initial reluctance, the experience of making hats turned out to be quite successful. The power of multiple machines and efficient processes allowed me to complete the order quickly and profitably. While I may not enjoy making hats, I can appreciate the satisfaction of providing a quality product for customers' special occasions.
