Alicia's Yarn Unboxing Adventure

Welcome to the Skein Witch YouTube channel! If you're new here, my name is Alicia, or Ally for short. If you love knitting, crochet, and all things crafty, then you've come to the right place. In this video, I'll be unboxing yarn from two amazing Etsy shops that I recently discovered. So, let's dive right in!

Three Sisters Fiber

Let me introduce you to Three Sisters Fiber, a shop I found on Etsy. They came highly recommended, and I was immediately drawn to their beautiful aesthetic and stunning yarn photography. As I was in search of purples and blues, their colorway "Wild Iris" caught my eye. I knew I had to get at least a sweater's worth of this mesmerizing yarn.

Aside from their Etsy shop, Three Sisters Fiber also has an Instagram and a website. Their website, spelled out as "Three Sisters Fiber," offers even more options to explore. The yarn I purchased is called "Essential DK," and it's a hand-dyed blend of 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. Each skein weighs 3.52 ounces (100 grams) and provides approximately 246 yards (225 meters) of yarn.

When the package arrived, I was delighted to find the skeins individually wrapped, adding an extra touch of care to the whole shopping experience. The wild iris colorway looked just as vibrant and stunning in person as it did in the photos. The label, with its simple design, provided all the necessary details, including the fiber content and yardage.

I'm already planning on ordering more yarn from Three Sisters Fiber. Their extensive collection of gorgeous colorways, as seen on Instagram, is simply irresistible. Additionally, I appreciate that they are actively contributing to important causes. Recently, they announced that 15% of their sales from February 20th to March 4th would be donated to help the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. It's heartwarming to see a small business making a difference.

The Wandering Flock

Next on our yarn unboxing adventure is The Wandering Flock, another fantastic Etsy shop. I discovered them through the podcaster Arrow Knits and Pearls, who frequently mentions their yarn. As soon as I saw their colorway, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

What makes The Wandering Flock particularly exciting at the moment is that their yarn has been featured in Pom Pom magazine. Naturally, I had to order both the digital and physical copies of the magazine to fully appreciate their stunning creations. I can't wait for the physical copy to arrive—there's something special about holding a beautifully designed knitting magazine in your hands.

Now, let's get to the main attraction: the yarn. I purchased the "Cosmic Tie Dye" colorway in their Pullover Kit. I opted for size 5 to 7, unsure of my exact size but aiming to have more yarn than I might need. The yarn is hand-dyed in Brooklyn and comes in a drawstring bag, making it feel even more special.

The kit includes a skein of their Kid Mohair yarn, which is 80% kid mohair and 20% silk, weighing 50 grams and offering 430 yards (394 meters) of laceweight goodness. The color and softness are simply breathtaking. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up ordering more mohair from them in the future.

To complement the laceweight yarn, the kit also includes four skeins of fingering weight yarn, each weighing 100 grams and providing 400 yards (364 meters) of 100% superwash merino goodness. The colorway, once again, is the mesmerizing Cosmic Tie Dye.

With this generous amount of yarn, I should have ample material to complete the sweater featured on the front page of the Pom Pom magazine. Although the pattern might be a bit advanced for my current skill level, I'm determined to give it a try once I receive my physical copy of the magazine.

Alicia's Knitting Preferences

As you may have noticed, I've been leaning towards pastel colorways lately. One of my current projects is a sweater using the "Candy Hearts" colorway from Mesa Skeins. Pastel hues have captured my heart, and both Three Sisters Fiber and The Wandering Flock offer a delightful array of pastel options that I find irresistible.

Supporting Small Businesses

I believe in supporting small businesses whenever possible, and both Three Sisters Fiber and The Wandering Flock exemplify the creativity and passion that make shopping small so rewarding. I've included all the relevant links to their shops and social media accounts in the description below. I highly encourage you to check them out and see what they have to offer.

Conclusion

Thank you for joining me on this yarn unboxing adventure. I hope you enjoyed discovering these amazing small businesses and their exquisite yarn. Don't forget to enter my current giveaway, which ends on Sunday, March 6th. Stay tuned for more knitting, crochet, and crafting content. Until next time, happy stitching!
